Mobilising the private sector to protect the planet
Proparco has made the investment in climate and biodiversity one of the three pillars of its 2023-2027 strategy, with the objectives of stepping up its action in favour of climate change mitigation or adaptation, helping its clients with their climate transition and promoting innovative solutions to protect the planet.
In Rio de Janeiro, the intervention of the private company Águas do Rio, supported by IDB Invest and Proparco, has made it possible to improve health and environmental of the famous Guanabara Bay. This jewel of biodiversity, which extends over more than 400 km² is a marvel and a unique ecosystem in Brazil. Read more
Gravita, eco-responsible battery lead recycler
The Indian group Gravita handles some 240,000 tonnes of lead-acid batteries every year, in compliance with strict environmental and safety standards. This leading industrial player has recently been financed by Proparco. The Group is also present in Sri Lanka and five African countries and is helping to structure a sector that is often dominated by informal players in developing countries.
In 2023, climate co-benefit financing accounted for more than 40% of Proparco's activity in 2023, representing an increase of almost 70% in volume terms compared with 2021.
