In Eurasia, Proparco finances and supports the private sector for the purpose of promoting sustainable development, protecting the environment and reducing inequalities. Its work helps to build a more inclusive economic growth model, respectful of natural resources.

A diverse region with shared challenges

Despite their diverse socio-economic and environmental contexts, the countries of Eurasia face common challenges: adapting to climate change, decarbonising their economies, sustainable management of natural resources and reducing inequalities.

In Turkey, the Caucasus, Central Asia and Eastern and Southern Europe, Proparco is deploying a targeted approach in liaison with local financial institutions and its partners – particularly European partners. The aim is to support the private sector, promote financial inclusion and accelerate the energy transition. This action is part of AFD Group's Eurasia regional strategy, which promotes a sustainable regional management approach and an inclusive and resilient economy.

In Eurasia, Proparco finances and helps private sector players to tackle the region's environmental and social challenges.

Partnering the energy transition: Proparco supports the development of renewable energies in order to promote the decarbonisation of economies and strengthen their resilience to climate change. It helps companies committed to circular economy initiatives and reducing their carbon footprint.

Project focus - In Turkey, Proparco supports Sanko Group in its sustainability strategy

Since 2021, Sanko, a leader in sustainable manufacturing in Turkey, has been receiving financial support from Proparco. This partnership has enabled the company to successfully launch a new state-of-the-art textile recycling activity. Proparco's financial support has also made it possible to install solar panels, reduce water consumption and launch Sanko’s own glass bottle recycling facility.

Supporting financial inclusion through access to credit and job creation: Proparco uses local financial institutions to support the development of microfinance and the financing of small and medium-sized enterprises, especially those involved in the agriculture sector and female entrepreneurs.
Facilitating access to essential goods and services: Proparco supports its clients by backing projects aimed at improving infrastructure and enhancing access to quality services, particularly in the health, education and water sectors. These projects tackle major challenges such as reducing socio-economic inequalities and promoting inclusive development in the countries within the region.

Project focus - Supporting hospital infrastructure in Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, for example, Proparco has granted a €90 million debt facility to Rönesans Saglik Yatirim A.S. to finance the construction of a major hospital. This project will improve both the quality and capacity of the national health system.
