Our activities in the Middle East

In the Middle East, Proparco is working in countries facing multiple economic, social, humanitarian and environmental challenges. In collaboration with its partners – particularly the European Union – Proparco finances and helps private sector actors to strengthen the resilience of economic systems, ensure the provision of goods and services to as many people as possible, and support the development of sustainable infrastructure. 

In Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan, Yemen and Iraq, its work focuses on supporting the local production fabric through direct or indirect financing of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), job creation, the construction and renovation of key infrastructure and roll-out of digital services.

The projects supported by Proparco in the Middle East help develop inclusive and resilient economies capable of meeting the needs of local populations.

• Supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem: through its support for local financial institutions, Proparco enhances the resilience of the entrepreneurial fabric and enables small and medium-sized businesses to develop their activities in economically buoyant, job-creating sectors.
• Safeguarding the digital transition: Proparco finances projects aimed at expanding access to the internet and digital applications to the entire population in order to reduce regional and social inequalities. 

• Financing key infrastructure: Proparco helps its clients with the construction and renovation of infrastructure to ensure the provision of basic goods and services. This infrastructure aims to provide solutions to economic challenges, for example through the renovation of a port or an agri-food complex; to social challenges through projects in the education and health sector; and to environmental challenges by supporting the energy transition.
