Proparco and Ecobank Ghana have partnered under the Choose Africa initiative to support local SMEs through the allocation of an AFD Group ARIZ guarantee.
Client presentation
Ecobank Ghana Ltd. (EBG) is an affiliate of the pan-African bank Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), which is headquartered in Lomé, in Togo. EBG was set up in Ghana in 1990 and is the leading bank in the local banking system, with about 12% of assets and 13% of deposits. This commercial bank is very active in financing SMEs and is a key partner for the deployment of AFD Group’s ARIZ guarantee mechanisms.
Project description
The project involves the allocation of an ARIZ portfolio guarantee for GHS 15m (equivalent to EUR 2.1m) which will cover loans to the SME segment ranging between EUR 10k and EUR 300k (equivalent in Ghanaian cedis). This operation is part of Choose Africa.
Project impact
The deployment of the guarantee will support 66 SMEs and create or maintain 200 jobs.
