Proparco has allocated an €11 million loan to Edilar to support the development of its activity in the field of public education in Mexico.
Client presentation
Edilar is a family-owned business that supplies educational material and tools, and provides training to teachers in Mexico’s public education system. Edilar has been a leader in its sector for 30 years, especially because it was the first to digitize its services. In 2022, the company’s revenue reached €44 million through 85,000 clients who pay it via a payroll deduction mechanism established by the State.
Project description
Following a first credit line allocated by Proparco, the project involves the allocation of a second mezzanine loan with a maturity of 7 years, in local currency, for an amount equivalent to €11 million. The purpose of this loan is to finance the growth in Edilar’s activity, alongside local banks, while contributing to the consolidation of its financial debt.
Project impact
The expected impacts of this financing are as follows:
Employment
- 279 direct and indirect jobs supported over the next 5 years
Gender
- Contribution to gender equality on the basis of the leadership, employment, and products and services criteria of the 2X Challenge (the project qualified 2X in 2023)
Access
- Support for improving the quality of education for more than 73,000 students (over the next 5 years), including among the most disadvantaged groups in both urban and rural areas
The maturity and structuring of the operation also ensure its subsidiarity with regard to local banks.
The project will thereby contribute to the achievement of SDG 4 (Quality education), SDG 5 (Gender equality), and SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth).
