• On the occasion of the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF), Proparco, France’s development finance institution and the private-sector arm of AFD Group, reaffirms its commitment as a partner in the development of Uzbekistan’s private sector. As part of this commitment, Proparco is contributing USD 23 million alongside the EBRD, DEG, and the OPEC Fund for International Development to a financing package of up to USD 150 million supporting the development and long-term operation of a 12 MW IT-load data center developed by DataVolt in Tashkent.
• This flagship infrastructure project will strengthen Uzbekistan’s digital ecosystem while supporting environmentally sustainable growth, in line with the country’s “Digital Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy”.

Over the past five years, Proparco has actively supported Uzbekistan’s energy transition through the financing of five major renewable energy projects, including a solar PV plant, wind farms, and the country’s largest battery energy storage system.  With this financing, Proparco is expanding its commitment to Uzbekistan by supporting another key dimension of the country’s development: its digital transformation.

As part of its digital infrastructure strategy, Proparco prioritizes carbon-neutral data centres that provide storage, processing and computing services to a broad range of users. By supporting shared digital infrastructure, Proparco aims to foster an open, accessible and resilient digital ecosystem while ensuring that the benefits of digitalization reach a wide range of economic stakeholders.

In this respect, the DataVolt project represents a particularly strong fit with Proparco’s investment approach. The data centre is designed to meet high environmental sustainability and security standards, combining strong energy efficiency performance with the use of renewable electricity. By delivering state-of-the-art digital infrastructure while minimizing its environmental footprint, the project sets a benchmark for sustainable data centre development in the Central Asia region.

This investment marks a significant milestone for Proparco in Uzbekistan as our first data center project in the country. It reflects our strong commitment to supporting Uzbekistan’s economic transformation through sustainable digital infrastructure. By combining digitalization, energy efficiency, and high environmental and social standards, the project contributes to the country’s 2030 ambitions.” said Anne Gautier, Head of Energy and Telecom for Asia and Latin America.

Rajit Nanda, the CEO of DataVolt said, “This financing marks an important milestone in our journey to support Uzbekistan’s digital transformation and ensure the country is well placed to leverage the opportunity offered by the AI economy. We are grateful to DEG, EBRD, OPEC Fund and Proparco for sharing our vision to bring world class digital infrastructure to this thriving data center market.”
