Proparco supports Tibu Health to strengthen access to healthcare in Kenya
Published on
Proparco is proud to announce a financing facility to Kenyan healthtech start-up Tibu Health. The financing, provided through the Bridge Fund by Digital Africa facility, will help accelerate the rollout of its proximity embedded clinics and improve access to healthcare for underserved populations.
Founded in 2020 by Jason Carmichael, Tibu Health is a Kenyan start-up specializing in accessible and affordable primary healthcare. The company provides high-quality medical services at reduced cost, primarily targeting middle-income and underserved communities.
Since 2024, the start-up has been developing a network of embedded clinics called “Minute Clinics”, integrated within existing facilities, mainly pharmacies through its partnership with Goodlife or within supermarkets. These embedded care centers rely on a central clinic (“Hub”) bringing together specialized services such as medical imaging, pediatrics, gynecology, laboratory testing and telemedicine services.
This “hub-and-spoke” model enables rapid replication of quality primary care infrastructure across urban/peri-urban areas, directly addressing gaps that drive avoidable self-medication — one of the most persistent public health challenges in Sub-Saharan Africa.Tibu Health currently operates ten (10) “Minute Clinics” (Embedded Clinics) in four counties in Kenya including Nairobi and plans to scale its network in the coming months to broaden access to primary healthcare services.
Since its launch, the company has delivered more than 45,000 diagnoses and administered 2,500 vaccines.
