Proparco is supporting the Chadian company ZIZ Energie with EUR 1.5m of financing
Client presentation
ZIZ Energie is a Chadian company with 16 years’ experience in the development, construction and operation of mini-grids in Chad. ZIZ currently has more than 100 employees in the country. The company traditionally managed thermal energy production and distribution concessions on behalf of the Chadian State in five cities in the country. In 2020, ZIZ concluded a 20-year contract with the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy to build and operate five first hybrid mini-grids (PV + storage + genset), each with a capacity of 2.5 MW.
Project description
Proparco has allocated financing to ZIZ for the CAPEX of the hybrid production sites (PV + battery + genset) under construction.
Project impact
100% of this project is classified climate-mitigation and should generate the following impacts:
- Provide clean and reliable decentralized renewable energy solutions to residents of secondary cities (beneficiaries estimated at around 70,000) and reduce the use of diesel generators
- Reduce and stabilize tariffs, while reducing the energy dependence of people with respect to the international context and the volatility of the energy market
The project will contribute to SDG 1 (No poverty), SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy), SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth), SDG 9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities), SDG 11 (Sustainable cities and communities) and SDG 13 (Climate action).
