In the Dominican Republic, Proparco is supporting the construction of a new building of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, which will host the Faculty of Health Sciences and Engineering Science courses.
Client presentation
PUCMM is a private non-profit Catholic university founded in 1962. It has a main campus in Santiago and a smaller campus in Santo Domingo. With 18,000 registered students, it is the country’s 4th largest university in terms of the number of students. It is also one of the most reputed, both for the excellence of its training and its capacity to receive students from all social classes. Its labor market integration rate for students is close to 100%.
Project description
Proparco’s loan will contribute to financing the construction and equipment of a 12-storey building on the Santo Domingo campus, which will host the new Faculty of Health Sciences and extend the Faculty of Engineering Sciences. It will contribute to developing its range of medical and paramedical courses, which are very much in demand, and more innovative engineering courses (biomedical engineering, mechatronics, renewable energies). It is AFD Group’s 5th loan to PUCMM.
Project impact
This project will contribute to promoting high-quality education in the Dominican Republic. Its new course sections, particularly for engineering sciences, should lead to the creation of a pool of local engineers in industrial activities with high added value. Its new Faculty of Health Sciences will contribute to strengthening the medical and paramedical profession.
