Proparco has allocated a $20 million loan to Davr Bank Debt to enable it to increase its lending to women entrepreneurs and facilitate women’s access to financial services.
Client presentation
Davr Bank, which was set up in 2001, is a dynamic and impact-driven private bank in Uzbekistan with a focus on the MSME segment, which remains underfinanced by the Uzbek banking sector. Davr Bank holds strong commitments both internally and towards its clients in favor of gender inclusion.
Project description
The operation involves a $20 million (or UZS equivalent) senior credit line to help Davr Bank increase its loans to individual entrepreneurs and microenterprises, who are the backbone of the Uzbek economy. 30% of the funds will be dedicated to improving women’s access to the financial products offered by the bank. This transaction qualifies therefore for the 2X Challenge, an initiative between Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) to support gender investments.
Project impact
The expected impacts of this financing are as follows:
Employment
- Support for maintaining 167 jobs over the next 5 years and creating 17 jobs in the companies financed by the bank (indirect jobs)
Start-ups & SMEs
- More than 88 microenterprises and 11 SMEs supported
Gender
- Contribution to gender equality through a commitment to finance companies that qualify for the 2X Challenge (30% of Proparco’s financing)
Access
- Support for providing new or improved access to financial services over the next 5 years for 5,000 beneficiaries
The project will thereby contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals: SDGs 1 “No poverty”), 5 (“Gender equality”), 8 (“Decent work and economic growth”) and 10 (“Reduced inequalities”).
