Client presentation
Mercy Corps is an international NGO operating in more than 40 countries, with close to 5,400 people working for a better world. It implements programs based on various humanitarian sectors, ranging from the management of conflicts, children and young people to agriculture and food security.
Project description
Based on a comprehensive study (“Corn market system in Burkina Faso”) financed by Proparco, the NGO Mercy Corps is going to implement a pilot project to develop the corn sector in Burkina Faso for a total amount of EUR 2m (EUR 1m grant from Proparco, and EUR 1m grant from AFD).
This project should lead to:
- An increase in incomes, resilience and job quality for farmers and workers in the corn sector living in poverty
- A strengthening of corn processing SMEs to improve the supply, product quality, and support business development and the attractiveness of the sector
- An increase in the resilience of the corn sector to environmental and conflict-related (especially land conflicts) shocks and stresses.
