Client presentation
Banco Atlantida is a Honduran privately-owned commercial bank. It was founded in 1913 and is today the country’s second largest bank. It mainly operates in the corporate sector (which accounts for 75 % of its portfolio). About ten years ago, the bank turned towards financing renewable energy projects and has developed recognized expertise in the sector. Banco Atlantida is owned by the holding company Inversiones Atlantida and a base of individual shareholders.
Project description
Proparco’s credit line will be earmarked to finance renewable energy projects.
Project impact
This operation will provide long-term financial resources, which are not readily available locally, to support the development of renewable energy projects. It will contribute to increasing the power generation capacity in Honduras in a context of growing demand, and and it will support the shifting of the energy matrix towards renewable energies. More generally, it will encourage the banking sector to finance renewable energy projects. It will also promote employment, as Banco Atlantida is the largest employer in the banking sector in Honduras.
