After supporting the development of AktivCo’s activity in five Sub-Saharan African countries in 2021, Proparco has renewed its partnership with this key player for its expansion in Senegal.
Client presentation
AktivCo, a subsidiary of Camusat Group, was set up in 2015. It supports telecom operators that want to outsource the energy supply of their telecom towers. This innovative segment is called T-ESCO (Telecom - Energy Service Company) and allows the owner of a telecom tower to subcontract the site’s electricity supply to a specialized third party responsible for deploying, financing and operating the electricity assets under a long-term contract.
For this project, AktivCo is also installing the tower itself (passive infrastructure) on an area of the sites.
Project description
Proparco has allocated a EUR 13.5m loan to support AktivCo’s activities in Senegal.
Project impact
The main economic, environmental and social impacts of this project are:
- AktivCo’s activity in Senegal supported through the installation of new off-grid electricity supply sites for telecom towers
- Climate co-benefits through the installation of hybrid supply systems (integrating REN) and a reduction in the dependence of telecom towers on fossil fuels (70% of the financing qualifies as “climate-mitigation”)
- People, partly living in remote rural areas, will have access to high-quality telecom services (101,421 beneficiaries supported through the project)
- 5,214 direct and indirect jobs supported
The project will thereby contribute to the achievement of SDG 7 (Affordable and clean energy), SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and infrastructure), SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities) and SDG 13 (Climate action).
